Lady Byron Façade

Project type

Education

Date

Completed April 2026

Location

Ealing

Façade Refurbishment · Window Replacement · Structural Repairs · Live Education Environment
Key Space Projects was appointed by long-term client University of West London to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of the Lady Byron building façade, positioned above the University's new main entrance.
The works centred on improving the performance, appearance and longevity of the existing building envelope while carefully managing construction activities within a live university environment. The building remained occupied throughout the works, including sensitive areas accommodating the Directorate and Vice-Chancellor's offices.
A major element of the project was the replacement of the existing inefficient single-glazed windows with new Technal Soleal double-glazed aluminium window systems. The works required careful coordination of external access, removal and installation, internal making good and protection of occupied spaces.
The wider façade package included replacement and refurbishment of the external balconies, leadwork, brickwork repointing and structural repairs, together with the installation of a trellis green-wall system and illuminated building signage.
Careful planning of scaffolding, access, deliveries, protection and sequencing was essential to allow the University to continue operating safely while substantial works were undertaken to the external envelope.
